A business leader has encouraged East of England companies to get ready for new opportunities such as the 2012 Olympic Games by investing in training their staff. Pat Smith, CEO of East of England IDB was speaking at the Every Step Business to Business launch highlighting Every Step provides training in the workplace for employers and employees.
Based at Colchester in Essex, Every Step has a Government-funded brief to improve business competitiveness across East Anglia through training.
Mr Smith, said that small and medium-sized companies in the East of England have golden opportunities for growing their businesses but that staff training was vital in making the most of them.
There are opportunities for new business from the 2012 London Olympics and the Haven Gateway and Mr Smith said: “With these developments on our doorsteps this sub-region has the potential to be one of the fastest-growing areas of the UK.”
He said quality staff are a vital element in business and added: “With businesses such as Every Step offering training solutions delivered cost effectively in-house to companies will directly help businesses to develop their staff and improve productivity.”
At the reception for more than 50 guests which included business and civic leaders, Mr Smith officially launched Every Step at it offices at Colchester Business Centre in George Williams Way.
The Every Step operation is being spearheaded by Chief Executive Lucy Brockway-Smith. She said: “We have an excellent team at Every Step. Learning should be embedded seamlessly into the working environment without causing disruption.”
“We achieve this through mentors taking laptops into the workplace. This has far greater benefits because people learn better if it fits neatly into their lives.”
